There is strength in numbers so the old saying goes. Also one of my favorite quotes is from John Rohn who says, “You’re the average of the five people spend the most time with.” Also along with that, my dad use to tell me, “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.” So if you hang around people who make bad choices, chances are you will too. If you hang around people who make good choices, chances are you will too.

I like the latter option myself. And when it comes to health, I knew I was already compromised with a lot of cards stacked against me. But, I still didn’t have a lot of the chronic diseases that tend to infiltrate people’s lives and sometimes can take them too young, or their quality of life suffers a lot.

So, my quest was to help others, my friends, to become more aware of what we are eating and the consequences, both good and bad. I believe whole heartedly that eliminating the fast food trips, and reducing the processed foods and focusing on plant-based foods for the most part is the way to go. John and I have changed our lifestyle to focus on these types of food the majority amount of time. We are not married to never eating some foods that may be considered “bad” but our body had changed to allow for these foods to be brought back in on occasions.

Learning how food works as medicine can really open up a rabbit hole of knowledge. So, I thought it would be fun to gather a group together and we would just talk about food and try to learn as much as we could to remain as healthy as we can.

Far more has been learned. This group grows closer together each month and it’s fun to hear different stories and continue to eat good snacks and such during our meetings.

Because we have all contributed a lot to the group by books that we have read, thought it would be a good idea to show our booklist recommendations.
